The Woman in the Yard 2025
This is like if M. Night Shyamalan was a misanthrope. A high-concept, stylish little thriller full of showy camera movements, entirely missing Shyamalan’s playfulness and his fundamental, unshakable optimism in the human condition. Instead, this is relentlessly bleak in a way I did not particularly enjoy, and the final act is borderline incoherent.

Incredibly charming! It’s tightly written and quite funny, but there’s a real beating-heart emotional core, too. Tim Key is particularly excellent… a nuanced, adorable, funny, poignant performance.
And Carey Mulligan! So warm.
Followed by a Q&A with writers/stars Tim Key and Tom Basden, and director James Griffith
