Beginning of the movie tells you what to expect at the end.
As I sip on Coca Cola, waiting for the monster to show up, I doze off thinking how some compositions resemble that of an SNL skit.
And with each scene spilling into the next, I feel a tiny hit of dopamine because the movie inches closer to the credit scene.
On a more serious note, Eggers does an amazing job setting the stage for a Gothic-style narrative to unfold (costumes, architecture, tone of each shot). And despite the script dragging along, I truly commend his willingness to step out of traditional Hollywood horror movies.
