Did I it enjoy it because the music is 1/1 for me and Erivo and Grande are gifted singers and Bailey is a wonderful performer?
Parts that took me out of it:
1. The CGI in defying gravity
2. The one short day scene was Jon Chu at full maximalist and I don’t want to watch again
3. The flying monkeys scene
Other questions I had:
1. Why is this reminding me of the recent Wonka?
2. Harry Potter made flying look cooler
3. Why am I tearing up at Ariana doing the chicken dance?
I too was invested in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Barbie is a 10! Greta is a 10! Margot is charming and empathetic and knowing. Ryan is hilarious and self-conscious, carrying a decent load of the movie and has some of the most memorable moments. But Margot is the star here.
Perhaps this was too surface level at times and Gerwig was slightly confined by the big corps painted into the peach sunset mountain landscape.
Further solidifies my belief that tennis is indeed the sexiest sport. Luca and Zendaya’s version of a sports drama is original, wry, and sweaty with three knock-out stars. I was not expecting Josh O’Connor to be my favorite performance but his sneering, lazy, sensual, always snacking on something character was probably my favorite. While Zendaya might be one of the most mesmerizing actors on screen right now and just a full blown movie star and fashion icon, I’m more excited to see what she does next behind the camera as another producer or director.
