  A movie the perfectly epitomizes the word "epic" in its original and brutal meaning. A historically accurate and visually stunning take on the viking world that revisits the original tale, or "saga", of Hamlet, the lunatic prince of Denmark forever immortalized by Shakespeare's play.
  The dirty, cold and unforgiving realities of the viking age are putted in display by a great cast of actors, and by the cunning direction by Eggers.
  The spectator is directly transported into the harsh polar regions of Iceland to witness a truly evil story of revenge and tragedy.

  Many people exalted this mediocre and overdramatic movie as the return of the Italian horror cinema, something that we still are longing to see.
  Everything is mediocre about it, from over dramatic acting, shit dialogues and very annoying usage of music.

  For being ghibli's first project is indeed one of their classics , still to this day able to prove himself, despite its flaws, earning a deserving spot in the 80's Japanese animation landscape. Most of its flaws Derive from compressing a larger story into a tighter take, sacrificing a potential larger scop, in order to achieve a more direct story. Despite this the narrative reaches a level of depth in full Miyazaki's fashion, with most of his future tropes present…
