Late August, Early September 1998
europeans know how to portray people much more realistically than americans do. why does it always have to be so glamorous and over the top here? but at the same time, i found this to be a bit too boring... it was just slow, and the plot didn’t really resonate with me enough to want to keep watching. i found myself pausing to see how much i had left several times throughout :/

UGHHHH the more i think about it, the more i like it. i honestly was worried during the first 20 mins that it was going to be some predictable young adult film. but the turning point and the proceeding chaos got me really enjoying this film. it could have been so much darker than it was, but i loved that it stayed on the side of lighthearted and even funny. i also really like how it ended—i thought i had predicted it, but apparently i hadn’t bc i was not expecting the nuances behind it

the close up shots, the wobbly camera, the coloring, the acting, the themes and symbolism… i enjoyed every second of this movie. it kinda reminded me of a female-led “Memento” in that the audience didn’t know what was going on because the main character didn’t know what was going on.

man oh man i havent been on the edge of my seat like that in a while. i was so confused. but i loved the unique editing/lack of chronology; it made me lose my short term memory, helping to put me in the shoes of lenny. and it’s still got me thinking about what is true and what’s not. i will need to rewatch asap
