  Le Mépris felt a bit pretentious and inconsistent. the characters themselves were unlikeable, insufferable even. bardot and palance seemed uninterested at best. it felt overly sexualised and the true focus of the film felt lost. visually, godard synthesised long shots, experimentation with colour palettes, the italian backdrop and cutting which i feel stylistically pioneered french new wave and art house films - which is a common detail amongst most of his filmography. he was able to capture the tensions of…
