I enjoyed Brian Tyree Henry's bit about Thomas the Tank Engine, and I love that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is in his hot villain character actor era. Everything else about this movie including Brad Pitt is weirdly boring and drawn out too long and over the top in a way that didn't make it fun to watch. Plus a supreme lack of Asian main characters in a movie set in Japan 🤔
Watching this you realize just how literal of a metaphor fitzcarraldo is for Werner Herzog. Making this movie is exactly as dangerous as it seems.
Put this on bc I couldn't sleep and watched over a few nights 🥲 this was one of my family's first dvds and as such it has significantly shaped my sense of humor. This time I couldn't get over the scene where Yzma chases Kuzco and Pacha down the nose of the big Aztec god facade using a super long curtain? It's just so wild. I can imagine the writers giggling as they wrote the scene and that is just delightful.
A portrait of Finnish people from the perspective of Japanese people. Poignant, sweet, a delight. Highly recommend.
