If my year of Criterion doesn’t give me anything better than this film it will have been a raving success.

Funny, tender, erotic- it left me hungry and with a deep appreciation for appetite.

The only other film I’ve seen that comes this close to worshipping food is The Taste of Things (2023)- and I think Tampopo tops it.

Will be dreaming about the bit with the egg yolk (need me a freak like that etc etc).

    Glad I didn’t…

Everything about this movie should have made it an absolute slam dunk for me… and I was left a little wanting. Timmy’s vocals were phenomenal though and WOW Monica Barbaro (who I just googled and she is 2 years older than me and we LOVE to see it)

Wow. Cronenberg is that fucking girl!!!

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie that has fallen so quickly into my pantheon of great films.

“It had a philosophy. And that’s what makes it dangerous”

Subterranean snuff, gore, smut, media-as-personhood, warped reality, hallucinations. Exploiting filth to eradicate filth. Delusion as Destiny. Fragility of flesh. What doesn’t this film have?

James Woods plays exactly the type of weird little freak I love. When I had to google him 3 minutes…

This movie asks and answers : “what if you could live that impossibly perfect scenario of getting a redo of that final conversation, the ending of a relationship?”. All anyone needs is a few years to walk the earth and reflect.

A quietly devastating story of love, loss, regret, searching, finding, and letting go. A man who seems to truly have gotten to the root of his narrative and who through his actions and words sincerely wants to make things right.

Will be thinking about this movie (and that bob) for a good long while.
