Easily one of the most unique and incomparable movies I've ever seen. To me the definition of cinema as a form of art. So wonderful to look at, seeing this in 4K or in the cinemas would blow me away. That said, I would've really liked the story to be more coherent and the characters less superficial, because apart from Dracula it is hard to sympathize with any of them. So even though I would like to rate this five stars for the sheer beauty of it, a perfect film consists of more than just pictures.

Not quite as eerie as Murnaus 1922 silent film, but still a pretty solid remake. Maybe the movie would work even better without being compared to its predecessor, but then again Eggers himself seems so constantly aware of the original, that it is impossible to do so. Most of the references are good and very well-executed. Unfortunately towards its second half, the movie feels more and more like a modern fantasy horror picture.
