    Loved this movie.

As an african daughter this was a bit triggering but it truly was a beautiful portrayal of the impacts of repressing one’s abuse and how when faced with the perpetrator, those emotions can present in different ways. It also explored how women are central to the perpetuation of the patriarchy, whilst being the victims of said institution, and how the cycle of abuse continues even after the central perpetrator is gone.

Only gave it half a star because I truly hate this man but the film was great.

Context: I watched this the day before the elections and I’m now writing this review a day after the results.

In terms of the film, it was a great villain origin story - the villain in question has sadly won the election and will be running the country for another term
