How can one truly "live" when you’re constantly having to rebuild your home after watching it be destroyed for no reason other than a blatant disregard for humanity? In a vicious unrelenting cycle of anticipating destruction, accepting said destruction, and being forced to rebuild from the ruins, this becomes Palestinian's entire purpose for living. Hopes and dreams are repeatedly crushed, eviscerating any faith for a better life.

Yet, Palestinians are the definition of resilience and steadfastness. In the face of…

    The Brutalist

    ★½

Had to let the experience of watching this 215-minute film marinate after seeing it over a week ago. It's hard to deny how grandiose this felt, especially going into it blind and having the first act blow me away. The Brutalist touches on critical themes of the immigrant experience at large, the illusion of the American Dream, and the destructive nature of living in a capitalistic society. While there is undoubtedly some astonishing technical quality at play, the more I sat…

    One Night in Miami...

    ★★★

A powerful script and riveting performances from the four leads carry the weight of this film. Being filmed as a stage play has its benefits, namely the conversation taking place during the Jim Crow era within the confines of a motel room which amplifies the gravity of the subject matter. Unfortunately, it also has its limitations and visually this fell pretty flat.

Dropping Sally Hawkins as Ms. Brown was a choice and I could really feel the absence of Paul King’s direction but thank GOD for Olivia Colman as a nun.

    Anatomy of a Fall

    ★★★★½

Part whodunnit part courtroom drama, Anatomy of a Fall is a voyeuristic deep dive into a troubled marriage that slowly begins to unravel before avalanching out of control.

The courtroom scenes and accompanying dialogue were riveting, giving the audience a front row seat to a relentless match of Wimbledon. What I found the most interesting was the commentary on Sandra’s bisexuality, in which the prosecutor uses to weaponize his case against her. This conveys the notion that bisexuality is still very…

A rom-com thriller that contextualizes advancements in technology in Black Mirror fashion. Surprisingly smart in the twists it utilizes to advance the plot, along with solid humor throughout. My queen Sophie Thatcher continues to rise to the occasion and I eagerly look forward to seeing her career take off.
