Gladiator II 2024
Quite on the fence about a lot of what’s going on here, but the dedication to epic practical sets never fails to provide a grand, entertaining theatrical experience.
A healthy example for the rest of Hollywood on how to utilise high-budget resources for ‘blockbuster’ or ‘tentpole’ projects.
Is this all you’d expect from the sequel to Gladiator though?

Honestly, it’s almost criminal that it has been over a decade since I last watched this masterpiece. For all the schtick I give Ridley Scott and his post-Gladiator filmography, this is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats. Flawed? Yes, but might it still be my favourite revenge tale?

I would recommend this movie to anyone simply to witness a bunch of aristocrats sliding about hardwood floors in their ridiculous shoes trying to break up a fight.
That scene alone made this entire experience for me. Guffaws and giggles indeed.
