D&D films as potatoes:
2000: a lumpy, boiled mess.
2005, 2012: the ones you forgot in the cupboard and threw out.
2023: a satisfying, golden roast.

Lovingly crafted, yet ultimately unsatisfying take on the schlock-horror of the 70s and 80s. As a piece of art, it's probably exactly what they were going for; as a story, it's pretty underwhelming.
Plus points for its svelte running time, retro aesthetic, and classic Tom Noonan performance. Minus points for its incredulously inept antagonists, and for the rushed and flat ending.
I expect fans of the genre will approve of this, however it's something I did appreciate but did not enjoy.
