    Dogtooth

What an incredibly brilliant portrayal of a disturbingly authoritarian family dynamic and the harm that absolute control and careful manipulation can have on the human psyche. Furthermore, Dogtooth can also be interpreted as an allegory of authoritarian and fascist regimes and the tactics they employ to mantain their populations under ultimate control. Corpse Bride

A haunting Victorian fairytale that could not have been told by anyone other than Tim Burton. Burton's distinctive gothic style manages to capture perfectly both the romantic elements of the story as well as the comedic ones. The eerie atmosphere that pervades the whole film transports you into the film's world and it's irresistible charm makes it impossible not to fall in love with it. Corpse Bride is a film that genuinely radiates nostalgic energy even to those who watch it…

    Kotaro Lives Alone

A heart-warming and raw portrayal of found family, childhood trauma and the difficult journey of healing from it. This limited Anime series manages in just a short 10 episodes to capture the humor and tragedy of Kotaro's unfortunate situation in the most graceful way possible. Kotaro's resilience and profound kindness is inspiring and incredibly soul-stiring. I truly appreciated all the characters and their interactions with each other. "Kotaro Lives Alone" is a reminder that love, kindness and friendship can be found even in the darkest of situations.

And yes I cried. A lot.
