Impressive to make what is practically a totally soulless movie predicated on this topic. A series of aestheticised but cool vignettes lurching from one to another. Enjoyed it.

Leave the World Behind 2023
Thought this movie was pretty good. Then i learned it was produced by Barack and Michelle obamas production company, Higher Ground. I thought that was somewhat strange. Then the lead soliloquy’s on how there isn’t an “evil cabal of super powerful people” running the world. Then there’s a ham fisted indictment of American foreign policy. Then there’s the propagation of civil war. Did they make this to drive conspiracy guys mad?

I’m conflicted. On one hand, this is a beautifully shot and paced film that details very accurately the problems with Film Critics in 21st Century society, where everybody is more afraid of hurting someone’s feelings than giving their real opinion. On the other hand, this is a 2hr attempt from Sam Levinson to legitimise his own problems with Critics by putting them in this racialised lens. Ironically, Levinson actually contributes further towards the problem with this film than he does…
