So bad it’s actually enjoyable. Laugh at the terrible CG, laugh at the terrible dialogue, laugh at the insane plot moments, like swinging a baby ape like a club at other apes, or making a toothache an important plot point THROUGHOUT the movie. Just shake your head and laugh.

PLOT TWIST OF THE OSCARS SEASON.
This film is disturbing as hell, but not in a way that makes you want to look away (well, except maybe one part). A gripping and sad story about the cross-section between morality and circumstances. Not an enjoyable watch, by any means, but it doesn’t want to be.

An important and heartbreaking subject with a filmmaking perspective that gives a more personal touch than you would otherwise have if you just learned about these atrocities through articles and news stories. You see the deep pain these indigenous survivors still hold, and you see their resilience in being able to live beautiful lives despite what they went through. And no amount of anger could be leveled at the Catholic Church that would be too great.
