And that ultimate smoko at the end ?? Badass.
…can’t lie…. The stage musical adaptation does go hard. Lots of cool added depth. Eternally grateful it hasn’t been turned into a movie though.
And, would be remiss to not shout out the fashion/costuming- ever blowing me away.
Somehow Barry Jenkins captured and instilled beauty and love and resiliency in the very bleak reality of racism in America. I loved the cinematography, the stretching of moments. The seamless composition of emotional tension and breaks kept me intrigued through the more art house feeling pace. I wanted to know so much more, but recognized that each piece of information, each scene was steeped in so much depth. Is this coming off pretentious? If Beale street could talk made me feel like an intellectual.
