The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 2023
This film thinks it doesn’t need to invest you in any of its characters or their relationships because taking place in the Hunger Games universe is enough. That’s where it’s wrong! How they managed to make Snow’s origin story so bland and boring is almost impressive?? They should have made a prequel about Haymitch’s games, and they probably will, but I must admit I won’t be rushing to see it after how disappointing this was :/

Can’t believe I didn’t like this after hearing the hype for 10 years. I was bored and stuck it out hoping for some crazy final act and was disappointed. The themes are so overt that it’s almost insulting. If the themes were as subtle as the horror, and the horror as in-your-face as the themes, it could have been pretty good. There are a couple of creepy moments and the stop motion shots are cool but other than that it’s a slog of constant reminders that these people are grieving and depressed. We get it!!!!
