Blonde 2022
Portraying Marilyn as if being a victim is a personality trait, acting like it defines her. Women are more multifaceted than simply survivors: I’m sure Marilyn had character that wasn’t just a constant state of peril, yet this film does nothing to explore that. She remains a vessel for exploring abuse of power rather than a person. Whether that’s moral or not is a complex debate but if someone made such a graphic picture of my trauma which depicted me so weakly I don’t think I’d be happy.
