Still a classic. Watching one mans decent into despair at the ugliness he sees around him and the path he takes to cleanse it is very engaging. Martin Scorcese directs his heart out to give you the feeling that you are in the ugliness of New York in the 70's and makes it believable that it could drive someone to feel very lonely and desperate in a city with millions of people. Excellent movie. 5/5
The sad thing is with this movie is that it's looking like it could come true in this day and age. The message that anything you want or need can be attained but maybe at the ultimate cost is delivered in an extremely violent fashion. A non overly futuristic setting helps achieve the feeling that this is just round the corner. The lead actors are very good especially Forest Whitaker and the ending is brutal. 4/5
