I, like everyone else, was expecting something different based on all the cryptic marketing and comparisons to Silence of the Lambs, essentially misled by my own expectations of what this film would be like a fool! The first 2/3 of the film had such a heavy atmosphere, the horned shadows and the scattered whispers of Nic Cage's character throughout were so unnerving, oftentimes I found my own breathing as panicked as Maika Monroe's.
I'm always here for an occult theme…
