Freaking enjoyed this one dude. It’s cute and doesn’t really have any annoying overbearing messages. What I could really take away from it was just that people and life are unpredictable, and often times what we want out of others but can’t have can haunt us.
That being said, I remembered I really wanted to watch this because the footage I saw looked really nice in a directorial sense, which it was. Real reason I’m giving this four stars though is Cranberries representation
I’m about to say something insane. Get ready. The art, animation, and soundtrack for this studio ghibli movie were all really good. I also thought the framing device for the movie was pretty special.
I am such a massive Sonic shill it’s not even funny. The way I pogged at the screen when they did the Sonic heroes reference for like a second and when Sonic and Shadow did the SA2 intro pose was so insane. So thrilled Live and Learn was in the soundtrack too, that was necessary. Also though they took a bit of liberty with Shadow’s backstory, they found a way to make him emotionally resonant. The framing of this movie was spectacular. The whole 90 minutes before the first episode of SNL airs was such a fun way to introduce organic pace into the movie, and the directorial and sound decisions helped reinforce the chaos and urgency of the situation. Really fun to watch for atmosphere alone.
