Trainspotting 1996
A movie with plenty to say and strong characterisation. Its unapologetic in its portrayal of addiction and the moral ambiguity of its characters.
The heavy stylisation gives the film a unique flare. At times it can feel almost poetic, and even beautiful despite the gruelling reality of the subject matter.

I’m conflicted on this movie.
On the one hand, there’s some beautiful moments with the father-son relationship, the kind that make this film feel like it’s really trying to say something- and it lands.But more often than not, I found myself disappointed in the writing of the women. Mary’s presented so clearly as a ‘not like other girls’ option, even going so far as to juxtapose her with the ‘slutty’ best friend.
