When critical reviews pull apart films for playing into the existing stereotypes and character archetypes that are sexist and mysoginistic, stating that writers have been doing it for far too long and getting away with it; this is the film they are referencing.
In the first 20 minutes theres blatant racist stereotypes, actual racism, sexism, sexual harrassment, ableism, microagression upon microaggression, terrible acting, coolio is there, and an upsetting number of intense close up shots.
This is not a good…
For a film whos opening shot is a card reading the most accurate telling of bram stokers Dracula, this film sure makes a lot of changes.
Overall it isnt a bad film, and certainly isnt a bad Dracula film. Christopher Lee is, as always, excellent as the count. And theres lots of fun material pulled from the book and some classsically charming practical effects that dont hold up at all but are still very fun to watch.
But definitely not an ACCURATE retelling.
