  At first you think they try to be iconic with every choice (from dialogues to general artistic choices) but they seem to always miss it by a bit - everything feels kind of stretched. Then you realize this is the spirit of the movie; combine this with such great direction and photography, character design, superb acting, and you have a masterpiece. Finally, it’s such a great movie also because it’s just SO fun to watch.

  This made me quit movies for a while.
  I appreciate both slow and vignette-like movies (in which you don’t follow a plot), but if you take a combination of them you must put all your efforts in creating either strong imagery or very charismatic characters (actually both, ideally). Here landscapes, photography and the atmosphere in general are not vivid enough, and the characters are really forgettable. Maybe these things weren’t true or that evident when it released, but now it just doesn’t stand the test of time.
