This is a children's movie. That being said, the child in me was very pleased. (The ending did make me cry)
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
If you're not taken aback by people racing towards a phallic-shaped award, with the exact intent you're thinking of, then this movie is for you. The heart-wrenching tale of a struggling immigrant family, hanging on by a splitting thread, getting reunited through the insane power of alternate universes made me cry more than once.
I just reread what I've written so far and it's insane. However, that's a perfect reflection of the movie and what you should be expecting going into it. Hell yeah
Oh yeah I took off a half star because I didn't like the hot dog fingers.
The first time I saw this, I was off an edible. The people in front of me managed to sneak in a bag of korean fried chicken. I thought I was slick, I snuck in gummy worms. I had smells, taste, and sights. It was a full sensory experience.
I honestly didn't follow what happened. But I was swept away. Spirited away, even. Some backdrops are just breathtaking paintings, worthy of a famous art museum.
I later rewatched this movie with a friend and, just as the plot stayed absolutely insane, I stayed loving it. We then got fried chicken after. Beautiful
I loved this movie more than my kids. I don't have kids, so it's a low bar, but still the movie is really good. Love a good murder mystery.
