I adore this film. It's heart wrenchingly sad and twisted but what I get from this movie, every time I watch, is that even the sad, horrible, painful moments in life are necessary and we would miss them if they were to vanish. We need the good with the bad. We can't erase the past because without it, we will never grow. Also no one is "meant to be" love is hard work and sacrifice.

Tom had these assumptions and ideas of who Summer was (and who she should be) and was disappointed when she didn't reach his expectations of her.
