This was the last of the Best Picture nominees I had to watch before the Oscars. I’ve seen all ten. Go me!
This was good and fun and better than the first one. I like that the Harkonnen men kiss on the mouth. I thought this was the last film in the series so for the last thirty minutes or so kept wondering how the fuck they were going to wrap things up. Excited for Episode III — I mean, Part 3.
Great sound and visual effects. I hope this wins an Oscar in a technical category.
This tickled me right in my Buffy/Goosebumps/X-Files/Are You Afraid of the Dark-bone. Loved the 90s aesthetic and the way the visual and intra-universe fuckery conveys the trans experience. I didn’t know going in that that was the message and as I read more about the making of the film and its creator, it made me appreciate it more. Will watch again and surely get even more from it.
Loved this. Really enjoyed the song and dance numbers, the emotional parts hit me right in the feels, and the motion-capture chimp worked very well, for some reason, at telling Robbie Williams’s story.
I came in expecting to be underwhelmed because this film has had so much buzz behind it, then I kept waiting to be disappointed and it didn’t happen. I wouldn’t call it groundbreaking—it’s a well-made biopic with good performances—but I enjoyed it the whole way through.
Two thoughts I kept having throughout the film:
1. Wow, Bob Dylan is a real asshole.
2. I want a cigarette.
