This was actually my first Ousmanne Sembene film. I was highly captivated and intrigued by the visual language, with both subtle and non-subtle nuances and visual innuendos used to express racism back in colonial times.
The eye opening moments of despair and the experience of true racism, becomes our protagonist’s reality as she battles losing everything after moving to France, while trapped under the dominance of her White French colonizers.
I felt more could have been done with expanding the depth…
