courtroom dramas are SO back. The random handheld documentary-style shots were a bit out of place tho haha, dunno what they were going for with that.

Whisper of the Heart takes quite a different creative direction from the usual pattern of magical realism & urban fantasy seen in Ghibli films. Instead, Miyazaki & Kondo focus on creating a truly believable world with a highly character driven plot. This thankfully doesn't come at the expense of the fantastical animation to which we are accustomed, but instead adds an additional layer of complexity rarely seen in Studio Ghibli's work.

Watched this movie without having any idea what it was about and it was so good! The spoken word parts are really engaging but don't turn the movie into a musical and the ending is an absolute 10/10. I would've liked the movie to make some of its social commentary a bit less bluntly as it made some of the dialogue feel a little forced at times, but it was otherwise a pretty good viewing experience .
