    The film has a strong vibe of Mr. Shinkai's aesthetics of juxtaposing persons with nature. Rain is beautiful but that's pretty much about the film:
    The theme was plain as everyday rain;
    Their relationship was not clear, thus the story kind of went off track in my opinion, just like you have no idea when the rain comes;
    The sun rises as well, rain evaporates, so does memory fade away.

    An intensely personal-formed film, Hana-bi tried to depict the blurriness between life and death. Unlike most other films, watching Hana-bi is indeed a very personal experience as the movie itself renders most formalist analysis pale.

    Talking about the plot and characters seems unnecessary. The film had just a few moving shots and dialogue. Only with the ever-changing scenery in Japan through the director's eyes did we get a glimpse of his understanding of the title Hana-bi, where Hana means flowers…
