An absolutely wicked film. I don’t want to say too much and risk spoiling it, but Oldboy (2003) is a revenge film and I don’t usually watch revenge films, so I felt especially blindsided—violated, even, by Park Chan-wook’s storytelling. The twist is devastating, turning the emotions you feel at the start of the film upside down. From beginning to end, you’re locked into Oh Dae-su’s experience, and when he throws up you want to throw up.
