What the fuck even is this film?
Sets out to declare the age old proverb "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" to be complete and utter bullshit. You have to bust your ass to do the thing you love and stay true to what you believe in. It's hard work man.
Romero manages to somehow balance social commentary, stunt heavy set pieces and like, i dunno, spirituality?? In a film about medieval motorcyclists...…

Glorious, downright beautiful scenes of violence. Back to back muzzle flash and red mist. The whole thing seemingly shot from a crane, as if the audience is some spectral dancer weaving between the bullets and falling bodies.
Not so much John Woo, more looking further back to the very source, the life essence of action as an artform in movies: LEONE, PECKINPAH, CHEH. High-art Action Cinema, ladies and gentlepeople, Johnnie motherfuckin To.

The Black Belly of the Tarantula 1971
This ones got just about everything, like a Giallo checklist. Loved the slow descent of our hero until the very end when he just explodes. Fantastic performance, dude looked physically ill by the final act. Great cinematography, plenty of pans and zooms with the tight editing you can expect from a Giallo. The killer has a particularly sick method of murdering their victims. And it comes served with Morricone on top! Who masterfully drifts between the films romantic main theme and pure madness.

Once Upon a Time in the West 1968
This fucking film. Maybe the absolute height of the Western, or even perhaps cinema itself! How does someone so perfectly depict the very beginning and end of a page in history? And Leone, the bastard, goes onto to do this again in Once Upon A Time in America. There's a wealth of unspoken Americana mythos in this film. A beautiful slice of a historic fairytale. An epic tragedy on a global scale, shot in widescreen colour, soundtracked by a lone harmonica.
