It has very powerful moments, and its documentary record of the iranian government repression is valuable. Likewise, everything surrounding the production of the film is noteworthy and admirable. However, in the end it feels forced and improbable. In addition the metaphor it tries to portray is a bit obvious. A daring film, but with some flaws in the development of the story.
It does not live up to its predecessors. The director repeats himself, in many occasions it is boring and exaggerated without foundation. It looks like a constant commercial for perfumes and Yves Saint Lorent. The cinematography is amazing though. But all in all a big disappointment.
I was expecting a more critical and introspective biopic, but it resulted in another action movie. Nolan's use the same old battery of tricks and effects that were useful for his other movies, but in this one simply didn't fit, all conversations, not to mention the really boring trial part, accompanied by a music similar than the one use in The Dark Knight or Inception. What a movie!! This is pure cinema. The banality of evil and the true face of human monstrosity. A very relevant film for today, in a world that is witnessing a genocide. It helps you reflect on the perpetrators of horrific crimes (I insist as those that are happening right now) and their human condition that can achieve enormous amounts of evil.
