Not sure I’ve ever laughed this hard at a movie. This is my fourth or fifth exposure to PTA as a writer/director and it has really reinforced my belief that his understanding of human behavior is second to none. Under the brilliantly written comedy is an articulation of often subconscious human tendencies that is only believable within the world he has conceived here. Career-best performance from Mark Wahlberg, who could’ve done bigger and better things than beat up Asian people and “Father Stu.” What a picture.

Rarely does a performance move you while operating under the banner of wit and charm. A masterclass by Jack Lemmon.

Megalopolis 2024
A huge swing, laughable execution, but ultimately humorous. Even though this was a mess I still feel like FFC understands the power of a great shot. I remember watching an interview in which he said the shot is the unit of a motion picture, as opposed to the sentence in a book. Megalopolis reminds me that FFC is the greatest spearhead of compositional risk we still have.
