Dead or Alive 1999
Pure fuckin’ mayhem from start to finish. An ultra-violent, hyper kinetic sensory assault of sex, drugs, and extreme chaotic bloodshed. Takashi Miike distils the Hong Kong action genre with the 70s yakuza exploitation style tales of relentless brutality to craft some of the most outrageous sequences of adrenaline fuelled insanity. All out havoc flows at the pace of a bullet piercing through someone’s skull. The bonkers ending left me completely speechless. One of the most batshit crazy sequences of unapologetic bloody mayhem I have ever seen.

Hellraiser 1987
A bold and imaginative cosmic nightmare. The magnificent practical effects quite literally hook you from the very beginning and doesn’t let go until your whole body is torn apart and bled bone dry. The story is incredibly ambitious, acting as a perfect distillation of Lovecraftian mythology with plenty of intrigue and mystery surrounding this fascinating dimension of terrifying creatures. It’s relentlessly paced and keeps the momentum up with a barrage of viscerally haunting and terrifying visual imagery. There are also…

The Hitcher 1986
A terrifying western slasher hybrid that pummels you with a barrage of chilling horror and brutal action. It’s like something ripped straight out of a nightmare you can’t wake up from. There’s a mythic, surreal quality to Rutger Hauers’ frightening performance of a supernatural force of unstoppable pure evil that implicitly implies a haunting dream state. The film seemingly operates on an unnerving nightmare logic as he seemingly appears out of nowhere to commit cruel acts of savagery for his…

The New York Ripper 1982
The sleaziest and goriest of all sleazy gorefests. A perfect slice of nasty, ultra-violent Italian horror excess. Lucio Fulci is an absolute fuckin’ maniac, wreaking havoc and unleashing mayhem with some of the most graphically extreme and filthiest depiction of blood and gore. Fulcis’ New York is a grimey hellhole. A pure wasteland of unrelenting savage terror and scum, home to a plague of gratuitous, horrific violence and deplorable filth. I think this just might be my favourite Fulci flick. An absolute top notch, dark and twisted exploitation scuzzy gorefest.
