It 1927
They did a good job writing the character of Betty for she is the definition of ‘it’: you both want to be her and be with her. Full of life, confident, upright and a loyal friend, Betty possesses admirable qualities one aspires for, but also, I would love to get to know her if she were a real person. I watch this when I need a boost in self-esteem.
Clara Bow is undeniably right for the role as she most definitely lights up the screen.Translated from by -

At some point I started crying and never stopped until the end credits rolled.

The Devil's Circus 1926
A slightly unsettling silent film with predatory men and a very, very pretty long-haired norma shearer in 1910s costumes. There were some cool visuals, like the acrobatic sequence and dramatic close-ups of Norma Shearer's facial expressions. There's this peculiar gothic tone to it, which made sense to me after I found out that this film is by the same director who directed Häxan.

The Unfinished Dance 1947
I love girls being unhinged and intense, ballerinas being melodramatic about dance (and just ambitious artists being melodramatic about their craft in general), and of course, beauty, so it’s impossible for me to not like this film. It’s stunning. I too, wish to love something so much I would think of dying without it.
+ I let out a giggle when Margaret O’Brien trembled while holding Cyd Charisse’s hand. Like, that’s me.
+ While I’ve always liked Cyd Charisse, I found myself more drawn to Karin Booth, whom I’ve never heard of before, in the film. I wanted more of her 💔Translated from by
