  Mexican and trans people have spoken at length about how they are represented so I’ll leave it to them to criticise that element but god, as a musical-lover, I feel qualified to say that the songs are sooo bad and this movie is so dull (both in looks and narrative, the latter of which is surprising because based on the premise, the plot SHOULD be interesting). Zoe Saldana is easily the thing that salvages it from being a train wreck but just barely. I don’t know what they were smoking in Cannes when they awarded this.
