This movie is exactly what you want it to be. It's funny and ridiculous and all in all a great popcorn flick.
But in all seriousness, I could've gone without the scene of Vince Vaughan kissing a teenage boy.
No, just...no.
Immeasurable cringe levels and I was yelling at my TV for most of that scene.

I have mixed feelings about this.
Pros:
- beautiful scenery and set design
- believable acting that felt, if anything, perhaps a little too honest
- buildable tension
Cons:
- a fairly obvious plot twist
- I mostly get that the tone should be disorienting because the protagonists are also in the dark and we're supposed to empathize with them, but what the hell is the point?
- the pace kind of drags
- I'm still waiting for something scary…

I was expecting this to be a shitty horror movie and I wasn't let down. I had zero expectations going in, but was pleasantly surprised by the actors in the first act.
All the kids (20 somethings) had a natural rapport with each other and it felt true. I was genuinely impressed. Until the spookening started.

This movie is genuinely fun and I was blown away by it. It has that nostalgia feeling of Stand by Me or Stranger Things or Super 8 but still remains original enough to hold your interest.
The characters are well-rounded and likable, you feel the stakes, you're on pins and needles waiting to see if they'll make it to the end, and yes, there's a fair amount of gore and horror.
Well worth the watch.
