I fancy 60s Japanese noir, 70s American exploitation, 80s Italian horror, 90s Hong Kong action and Brian De Palma.

All That Jazz 1979
A good biopic has to capture three things; the place and time of its subject, the essence of their personality, and - most importantly - the spirit of their work. A great biopic has one additional job; to be fully enjoyable for anyone unfamiliar with the subject. All That Jazz is the greatest biopic (closely followed by Amadeus and Mishima).

Ebola Syndrome 1996
According to Roger Ebert, a movie should be judged by what it tries to be and how close it gets to achieving that. This one clearly had the intention to be the most putrid foul piece of celluloid garbage, and in that regard an astonishing success.

Eureka 1983
A movie as insane as its main character. Hackman is incredible here, his performance perfectly matching (and justifying) Roeg’s erratic, manic and occasionally downright psychotic direction. It loses its momentum once he disappears from the center, but by then I already fully gorged myself on wild, unpredictable surreality, so no complaints.

Angel Dust 1994
A serial killer genre flick only on the surface, it’s one of Ishii’s introspective ambient artfilms. Like August in the Water and Mirrored Mind, it’s not about the story, but about states of mind. Melancholy, depression, alienation, dissociation, loss of autonomy… Ishii set out to accurately visualize these troubled moods, and boy did he succeed each and every time. Another extraordinary work of a true visionary.
