    Lost in Translation

I get what the story is trying to achieve by having these 2 characters feel isolated from the world and find comfort in each other despite their personal circumstances but the way Japanese people are portrayed seems so desensitized in here. It took me out of the story so aggressively and so many times how the American characters, specially Bill Murray’s character, treat Japanese people and their culture as if an annoyance and something to make fun of based on…

Even though Sofia Coppola’s lost in translation touches this topic very well, but I liked more Spike Jonze’s portrayal of how a break up goes. Not the sides of it, because that is subjective, but as an overall story.

This film was so surprisingly good. So much to think about.

I like how it works with the philosophical Alec of the question “what is the meaning of being alive?” It generates a debate with the audience and questions them about it.
Also, it ponders about 3 key aspects of life, the responsibility of being alive, the belief one has about life, and the joy one experience while being alive.

The ending being a blending of fiction and reality makes a more subtle transition so that the audience can insert themselves into the story shown to them.

An original drama that uses great cinematography as a story telling device. With such few lines through the film, it manages to hook you up with its visuals, acting and directing. Definitely worth the watch.

Its views on love are quite unique, maybe due to the era of Turkish films it belongs to, something I’m not familiar with. It kept me busy trying to interpret them and think of what was the vision of the creator.
