Love Lies Bleeding 2024
John Waters made me watch this. There are quite a few parallels with The Substance, and this is probably objectively the better film, but I enjoyed The Substance more. The flashes of crazy weirdness were a nice jolt now and again but it never really leaned into them, and I wanted more plot. This seemed like a lot of great ideas beautifully executed but not completely sewn together. Gave me Lost Highway vibes, but never committed to David Lynch style craziness. I liked everything about this but it didn’t hang together for me. Krisren Stewart is amazing.

The main challengers is staying awake during this bore fest. This film is the two hour long story of finding out which of two boys Zendaya will kiss. To make it seem like it’s exciting the film jumps between 15 years of kissing and not kissing. The only way you know which year it is is by Zendaya’s hair because they all look the same age in every scene. There’s a sexy bit where the two boys kiss each other…
