  Imagine a load of tommy wiseau characters mumbling garbled bits of pop social psych. Then imagine it all looks like a 3D rendition of the ugliest planned town you’ve ever seen.

  Bad in a way you won't believe is possible. Either gets banished from collective memory forever, or appropriated as a cult event

  Have got the sense Aster/Phoenix don’t especially like each other, had various bust ups, never fully got to grips with others’ processes etc. This could have spelled disaster. And sure, the third act, with its Charlie Kaufman stuff, is beyond repair.

  But I kind of enjoyed the chutzpah of it all? A less entitled director would have hacked away at an edit. But a less talented director also wouldn’t have got the thing made in the first place. Will bomb.
