The movie, just like any Miyazaki work, is visually stunning. It is tamer than others I have seen before from him, though.

I was touched at different points at the movie, by both of the main storylines that happen through it. I do think they begin to clash at some point.

It represents the effects of an upcoming war as well as a natural disaster, and the reactions of the people living through those, but I fear it doesn't commit.…

    MASTERFUL

this movie bends and breaks realities as it seems fit. relationships are created to be destroyed and made up again, it does so like i have never seen before.

this is the best romantic comedy i have seen so far. what a treat.

the background designs are beautifully made, the soundtracks are a joy and the performances are touching.

a movie that gracefully portrays the everyday of what would be a post-war shanghai, navigating through comedy and drama. no matter how hard the times are, people are people.

unfortunately, there is a rape joke scene in this movie, and that to me is unacceptable.

may god, humans and my beliefs forgive me when i say this as it is extremely reductive…

but this is why movies exist.

this is why i want to look at images moving and pretending the sounds are coming from them.

this is why i want cameras to act as wardens and kings of the world. forever telling one sided stories and capturing images.

this story hits too close to home.

    love.
