All Quiet on the Western Front 2022
Saw this described as a « true anti war » film and would strongly agree. Drives home how utterly expendable soldiers’ lives were considered, and how pointlessly so many died. Opening scene of machine guns transitioning into sewing machines was such a brilliant choice, and the tank scene evokes such intense raw terror. Sound design & engineering deserves awards

OG inception.
Despite the surreality in content, even the dream aspects of the film feel (intentionally) very realistically animated (yay physics). When the dreams fully bleed into reality it’s then much more unsettling.
I think some emotional component was lacking though - would have liked a little more time on characterisation.
