  almodóvar does his english-language feature debut justice by making sure that even the dumbest viewer understands what he's trying to rub his nose in and, most importantly, making sure to LET EVERYONE SPEAK CLEARLY AND DECENTLY

  The first 45 minutes are amazingly thrilling and smart. Spielberg shows us how Cold War was a lot more propaganda than real danger. But (US) citizens like to get stories told and have a bogeyman.

  Unfortunately the movie gradually becomes more and more Spielbergesque. I loved the scene at the Glienicker Brücke in many ways, not least because of its historically characteristic. But in the end there's too much pathos in it. The scene comparing kids in New York with refugees from East Berlin to show how western civilisations live in freedom is trite and predictable.
