    The Substance just didn’t have as much substance as I was hoping. I didn’t feel a lot of sympathy for our protagonist, and didn’t overall find myself engaging with the film. Am I glad I watched it? Sure. It’s out the way now.

    But I don’t think I’ll ever be re-watching it, and frankly can’t recommend it.
    If you’ve seen gore movies, this is nothing special. If you haven’t, or you’re afraid of needles, you’ll probably have a much stronger…

    Always pleased to find that Luca has yet to repeat himself in a film. Each one is distinct in its style yet still distinctly “Luca”.

    While as usual then, this film is terrifically well made, it just didn’t hit the feels as previous work has done. Perhaps because the lead is so unlikeable and the situation depicted so uncomfortable. It also felt *long*.

    As always with Luca. Enjoyed, but I feel was perhaps hindered by the story. Craig was excellent.

    This does make me want to see a Luca Guadagnino action movie.

    Overhyped.
    I simply went in expecting too much, and I wasn’t in the right headspace for it, either.

    A terrific monologue from Jack Haven was the highlight of the picture.

    The film felt it was building to something that never really came. And, unlike recently watched Mulholland Drive, this didn’t feel as much like a movie you’re supposed to paint your own interpretation upon, instead that there is a prescribed yet opaque interpretation the Director/Writer was intending.
