Tenet 2020
If RoS illustrated that JJ Abrams has no idea how to tell a story, then TENET proves that Nolan has no idea what a story is. To him it's just plot plot plot plot, some Bond window dressing and explosions. This is not only an empty contraption, this is the quintesential Nolan movie - no subtext, no themes, no atmosphere, no character, no story structure, just convoluted babble that's supposed to create an illusion it's smart and complex. At least Snyder knows how to make some images...

The Thin Red Line 1998
Probably Malick's last (more or less) narratively-driven picture.
It lacks a conventional center (what many assume was supposed to be Brody's character before he was cut from the film), but, while many see that as a flaw, I find it incredibly effective.
We see the trauma of war experienced sporadically and fragmentary, jumping from POV to another. Here, as much as in his other movies, Malick uses montage and obtuse voice-over to communicate grandiose ideas; they may seem a bit hokum, but I find the suggestive quality of the film's images quite powerful.
