This was my first Wes Anderson film, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I particularly enjoyed Anderson’s distinct editing and cinematography style, which made good use of POV shots and both pans and whip pans. The unique set design and colour coordination is also a plus. I also thought that the story was engaging and easy to follow along. I would recommend this movie to families with children over the age of 10 for some suggestive scenes involving a childhood love affair, but all in all a good film.

A violent, rather bombastic but bold take on Mayan civilisation. I especially enjoyed the scene in which Jaguar Paw (played by Rudy Youngblood of Comanche descent - somewhat close enough) utilises his expertise in horticulture to his advantage against gaining the upper hand against the Mayans. An exciting zombie flick with good pacing and well timed deaths. The gore wasn’t gratuitous for the sake of gory which was also a plus. I liked most of the characters in this film as they had excellent chemistry between each other. I was a bit let down by the rather anticlimactic ending however. Overall a good 4.5/5 stars
