Scott Pilgrim vs. the World 2010
Incredibly fun Rated Q screening. Loved every performer and had no idea I needed a Roxy/Ramona drag performance set to “All the Things She Said”.
This thing looks good on 35mm. Still funny, still moves at a perfect pace, and everyone booed at “Scott Pilgrim was dating a high schooler.”

All the Real Girls 2003
Sometimes I’m scared of myself. But I’m not scared with you.
An uncynical look at first love, at being on the cusp of adulthood, at figuring out who you want to be and who you can be and what you’re capable of and how the world shifts completely when you open up to someone else and how exhilarating and terrifying that is.
Always interesting to revisit a movie you first watched as a teen. I still like this, though maybe not as much as I used to. But I like the performances, its emotional core, and I think it looks great. Adore that opening scene.

Q&A with Ang Lee
Second time watching this, first time in a theater, and it’s such an obvious statement but that’s the way it’s meant to be seen. Just gorgeous. And I’m still completely struck by Tang Wei’s performance. And Tony…whew.
Incredible that Ang Lee made Brokeback Mountain and this back to back.
